In Brighton, Colorado, Officer Nick Struck was the third person to arrive on the scene of a serious car accident. Six people were ejected from the car on impact. It was a family with four children, and the father was unfortunately killed.

"When you hear that there are children involved, I'll tell you what...you get that pit in your stomach," Struck said. "The first thing we do when we get on the scene is try, if we can, to comfort anybody. Of course we're going to go to the kids."

Struck was handed a two-year-old girl at the scene, and he began to sing to her.

The father of a two-year-old daughter himself, Struck explained that he would want nothing more than his small child to be comforted in a situation like this. Struck sang "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" to her, the same way he does with his daughter.

The mother and one of the children were airlifted to local hospitals, while the other three children, including this little girl, were taken by ambulance. All six people in the car had been ejected from the SUV. According to investigators, no one involved was properly restrained in the vehicle.

"I have a two-year-old daughter and she's my first kid. So, of course, your first thought is that this could be your little daughter," Struck told local news. "I'm not a medical person, but I know how to hug somebody, and you better believe every one of those officers on scene would do the same thing."

The image of Struck holding the girl at the scene of the accident has received much acclaim online, with people all over the country celebrating his kindness and compassion. The image was captured by witness Jessica Matrious, who told police that she'd seen the SUV blow a tire and lose control.

Though the events are tragic, the fact that people like Officer Struck are on hand to offer comfort and support is heartwarming.
