Susan O’Brien, a new mom, collapsed from exhaustion while competing in a race on Mother's day. After being found on Monday morning, Susan said that she had drank her own breast milk to survive the night.

New Mother Drank Her Own Breast Milk To Survive After Getting Lost In The Woods

After wondering one and a half miles off the designated course, Susan found herself lost in the dense Rimutaka Forest Park of New Zealand.

She attempted to find the way back, but collapsed from exhaustion. "I just dug a hole. I didn’t have a life blanket, I thought I was going to die." she told Radio New Zealand.

Susan, who had just recently become a mom for the second time, drank her breast milk for energy and covered herself in dirt to keep warm.

She kept herself going through the night by thinking about her husband and children, and praying. She told the station “I definitely thought I was going to die.”

Police searched the area throughout the night, eventually finding Susan on Monday morning, around 24 hours after she had set off.

She said the experience had not put her off competing again.
Radio New Zealand captured the emotional moment Susan was reunited with her family.
