In an era of blockbusters and CGI its comforting to find every now and then an independent film who aims not to please an audience or try to emulate the "Hollywood" formulas but instead bring an honest story with a great message.
"El Freeman" is a film about humanity.
Written by the well known kazakh actor Yelhas Rakhimbekov and the american cinematographer Erik Kjonaas, and directed by Antonio Chavez Trejo and the same Rakhimbekov (who also plays the main character), brought together a story that will make some noise in the film festival circuit.
This is a story about redemption and the pursue of the good within everyone of us; "El Freeman" is the story of El, an illegal immigrant living in Los Angeles trying to get his status legal so he can work and live the american dream. When he realizes this dream is not meant for everyone to have, El do whatever it takes to survive which pairs him with a moving company who uses the info of their new clients to steal from them. Little than he knows El will find in a new client a mentor and a friend who will teach him a new path in his life, but his loyalty towards the people who have been feeding him and giving him shelter will be compromised.
The production just finished shooting the main photography and the film is currently in post production, so they can have the world wide premier at Cannes film festival.
"We are trying to get the final cut by the end of April so we can have the world wide premier, but we won´t release it until Yelhas and me are both satisfied with the film" said Antonio Chavez Trejo, Co-Director and Producer of "El Freeman" who is not a stranger to the Cannes Film Festival (He has presented two years in a row a film at the Cote d'azur beaches in France).
This is a film to keep an eye on because of it´s nature and it´s powerful and universal message which goes in perfect harmony with it´s very eclectic and diverse cast and crew.
