A 10-year-old is being hailed as a hero after her alertness saved her family from a fire in their home in Staten Island, NY. And it’s certainly a title that’s well-deserved when thinking about what could’ve been the outcome.

Brave 10-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Family From A House Fire

long with dogs whose strong senses are often able to detect house fires before they occur, it’s always great to see young children like Gabby Serpico leaping into action during times as critical as these.

Before the fire alarm went off in her house, Serpico smelled smoke and immediately knew something wasn’t right. She quickly ran to wake up her 17-year-old brother who was sleeping in the other room. Together they ran out of the house before they would be trapped in the blaze.

Although many parts of the home were tremendously destroyed from the fire, the sweet girl told CBS New York she only had one concern. “As long as my pets and my family are safe, I’m okay,” she said.

Her father emphasized the importance of what his daughter did. He said he was proud of her quick-thinking as was her best friend, who told the news station, “I think she’s a very brave young girl, and I feel really proud for her".
