There are few better feelings than slipping between the sheets when you go to bed. After a long, hard day, it’s perfectly fine to surrender yourself to sleep before removing your clothes; to collapse on your bed and fall into a world of dreams.

Here s why you should always wear socks when you go to bed

Even so, there’s always been something that feels ‘not right’ with me when it comes to sleeping with socks on. I can’t really explain it, but sleeping with pyjamas or a t-shirt is normal, whereas leaving socks on has always been … uncomfortable.

As they say, though, there’s no time like the present to change your views. It’s certainly something I’ve done after learning the information present in this article.

It actually makes sense to keep your socks on when you sleep at night. Lend me a few minutes of your time and I’ll explain just why …

I can’t place my finger on exactly why, but it feels as though there’s a certain stigma when it comes to socks and bed. You just don’t wear them when you’re sleeping, or so maintains usual bedroom etiquette.

What are old routines if not there to be broken, though? Especially when you have new knowledge to apply.

In the winter time, I’ve been known to keep my socks on purely for the fact that my feet get cold without them. There’s nothing worse than waking up with freezing toes, after all.

Now, it transpires that research has proven it’s a good thing to keep socks on when sleeping, according to studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland. But how did they arrive at this conclusion?

Well, they examined the relationship between the temperature we have in our hands and feet, in relation to how quickly people fall asleep.

They tested their theory on a group of men, with the majority falling asleep when their feet were warm. Once the blood vessels have dilated, heat is distributed faster to the rest of the body. According to the study in question, this enables people to fall asleep faster.

Speaking plainly, when you wear socks you can potentially get to the land of dreams quicker.

For people who find it difficult to nod off, why not give this technique a try? Keep your socks on tonight!

Meanwhile, for those of you who already sleep with socks on, don’t be ashamed of it!
