From Colombia, a country located in South America, today I take up my pen to highlight the man who will lead the destinies of the Republic of South Korea; It is about Lee Jae-Myung, who was born in a humble home of a peasant family in Andong, North Gyeongsang province, in 1964, in those conditions he had to fight very hard to be able to stand out, taking into account that the public school system from South Korea only covered primary education at that time, he could not attend middle and high school, then his parents migrated to Seongnam, where he had to work hard during his adolescence in factories to be able to study, during these activities he suffered several accidents work while still very young.
With much effort he enrolled in the academy, but had to abandon his studies due to lack of resources; however, and due to his good performance, he received the support of his teachers, who gave him free classes. As early as 1978, he passed the entrance exam for high school and two years later, he passed the exam to enter his college career as a lawyer.
These experiences in the midst of poverty would be the support of his democratic formation and the basis for his formation and political philosophy.
As a civil rights lawyer, he fought for the welfare of workers and their families, being influenced by Roh Moo-hyun, who would later become president of the country of the South. He entered politics, but was defeated in the 2006 Seongnam mayoral election and the 2008 South Korean legislative election; however, his persistence led him to be elected mayor of Seongnam in 2010, being re-elected in 2014; he subsequently ran for and won the gubernatorial election of Gyeonggi Province. In order to aspire to the presidency, he had to resign his post as governor, for which he is now the candidate with the greatest chance of winning the elections, facing his bitterest rival, the former Attorney General of the Nation, a candidate for the Partido del People Power Yoon Suk-yeol.
This is the 20th presidential election of the Republic of Korea which is scheduled for next March 9 this year, being the eighth presidential election since the democratization of the country, the president is elected for a single term of five years, without possibility for reelection.
The importance of the election of Lee Jae-Myung lies in the fact that by belonging to and having the convictions of the Democratic Party (Center-Left), a balance in power relations with the neighboring country of North Korea would be guaranteed, in addition to social policies. for the disadvantaged population in South Korea; his struggle and his life story would be the guarantor of these proposals that would benefit the entire population of the Asian country.
