Zhang Chi, 19, from Jiangsu, China, suffers from muscular dystrophy, making it difficult for him to walk.

School Student Has Carried His Disabled Best Friend To Class For Three Years

For the past three years, his classmate, 18-year-old Xie Xu, has carried him to and from classes at Daxu High School to make sure he can get to them on time.

'The story of the two students is so inspiring and touching. They aren't family, but [Xie] has been doing this for three years,' vice-principal Guo Chunxi told Shanghaiist.

'He's the most beautiful student. He also exerts positive influence on other students, who readily help Zhang. With their assistance, Zhang has never missed out on one single class,' the vice-principal said.

Xie carries Zhang to school from their dorm, helps him wash his clothes and fetches his three meals every day.

Xie and Zhang are third year students at their high school. And, despite the challenges, they have been the top students of their class for the past three years.

Xie's dedication is especially important in a country where more than 243,000 children with disabilities are unable to attend school because of inadequate facilities.
