GrubStreet: Blue Bell’s summer is going out with the wrong kind of bang: The creamery whose facilities have had listeria more often than not in the past 18 months is recalling another nearly 2,000 cartons “out of an abundance of caution” that the bacteria may once again be lurking inside.

Blue Bell recalls ice cream to possible presence of bacteria listeria

The notice, which went out Tuesday, says the voluntary recall covers two flavors — Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (in half-gallons and pints) and Cookie Two Step (in half-gallons) — that were “made with a chocolate chip cookie dough ingredient supplied by a third party supplier, Aspen Hills.” Which is sort of the firm but nice way of broadcasting: Not our fault this time, people!

Blue Bell says it notified Aspen Hills, and both companies decided to round up the potentially tainted products. The listeria was discovered at Blue Bell’s Alabama plant during the “enhanced” internal testing procedures now required by the Feds.

The ice cream was sold in ten states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, and then North and South Carolina, two states Blue Bell just bragged about finally expanding back into last week.
